I was watching their video and the person on the left has such severely narrow shoulders that I was baffled..? 

Shoulders are so important for women

Honestly, having way too large shoulders is also not a look. You need something that’s moderately broad. Having square shoulders is just the best. For idols, they have a freaking small head and thin bones, so even if their shoulders are somewhat broad, their frame is still small so it looks fine. But for commoners, if the shoulders are broad, they just look bulky. And more than width, the shape or line is what really matters, like the traps, slouched posture, hanger-like shoulders, and so on.
