BTS Scores A World-Class Achievement By Topping Oricon’s Mid-Year Album Charts

The septet marked another impressive milestone in their career, one achieved by the King of Pop 36 years ago

BTS’ Map Of The Soul: 7 has earned another amazing achievement. The septet recently topped Oricon’s mid-year album charts, a feat previously achieved by singer-songwriter Michael Jackson.

The group topped the charts for the first half of 2020 and sold 429,000 copies. This makes them the first overseas artist to top the charts in 36 years—a feat last achieved by Michael Jackson with his 1984 album Thriller.

Aside from the mid-year album charts, Map Of The Soul: 7 also topped Oricon’s daily, weekly and monthly albums chart upon its initial release on February 2020.

Map Of The Soul: 7 received critical acclaim for its of musical style. The album, comprised of 19 songs and varied genres, proved the septet’s mettle as ace artists.

In related news, BTS is gearing up for the release of their fourth Japanese album, Map of the Soul: The Journey. The album is slated for worldwide release on July 15, while the album’s lead single is slated for release today at 6PM KST
