BTS fans have created the ‘Rosé-Jennie Challenge’ in response to the ‘Suga Challenge’.

On the 12th, claims began to be made by ARMY that the ‘Suga Challenge’ defending BTS Suga’s drunk driving on an electric scooter was actually created by Blackpink‘s fandom to damage the reputation of BTS overseas fandom. To counter the challenge, they created the ‘Rosé Challenge’ by posting pictures of  Rosé with drugs to portray her as a druggie. They also created the ‘Jennie Challenge’ posting pictures of Jennie with men to sexually harass Jennie. The related posts have garnered over 940,000 views showing how powerful these challenges are.

This isn’t the first time that overseas fans have attacked Blackpink. In December 2021, BTS opened personal IG accounts for the first time in 8 years since their debut. Among them, V following Jennie became an issue. At the time, V only followed the 7 BTS members and the official account but suddenly followed Jennie. In response, V indirectly revealed on Weverse that following Jennie was a mistake writing, “Isn’t there a way to get rid of SNS recommendations? This is a very scary app.”

However, overseas fans flooded Jennie’s comment section with vomiting emoji and trended the hashtag ‘#FREETAE'”. They also left comments saying, “explain your relationship?!”

Pop culture critic Ha Jae-geun analyzed that overseas K-pop fandom slander of other artists stems from cultural differences with domestic idol fandoms. He stated, “In Korea, its an unwritten rule not to mention other singers even within the fandom. Due to the nature of the fandom, in the process of supporting our their singers, they can become very aggressive toward others. In Korea, there is kind of a tacit agreement because we experienced severe fandom conflicts in the early days of idol culture. If someone mentions another singer, they warn each other but this culture hasn’t been established overseas. That’s why things can happen overseas that would be difficult to happen in Korea.”

He also criticized, “It’s difficult to confirm whether the ‘Suga Challenge’ was actually by Blackpink fans so we can’t hastily conclude that Blink started the trend. Even if that’s the case, if overseas ARMY were making false claims and criticizing Blackpink because of it, that’s clearly wrong.”

Overseas fandoms are relatively more likely to criticize other idols in support of their favorite idols. A similar phenomenon is also occurring outside the idol fandom in the broadcast industry.

Actress Jeon So-min who appeared on SBS ‘Running Man‘ and actress Ji Ye-eun who’s currently appearing on the show are artists who are suffering from strong overseas fandoms. Overseas fans criticized So-min’s appearance on the show writing, “Jihyo is the only woman. Please draw a clear line with fixed members.” After Jeon So-min left the show, Ji Ye-eun has been receiving malicious comments that only defend the ‘chemi’ of the existing members and ostracize her.

Meanwhile, the level of “Jennie s*x” composite photos posted by BTS fans to sexually harassing her is so strong that the photos cannot be freely posted in public.

  1. [+214, -12] I have finally seen the level of ARMY who are into criminal idols ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
  2. [+185, -7] This is seriously crazy. It’s so dirty because it’s a composite without any mosaics. How can someone be so crazy about a man to that extent?
  3. [+156, -9] Yep
  4. [+134, -6] It’s bad… South American birds are the same everywhere..
  5. [+103, -4] Wasn’t it revealed last year that the drugs were just props? What year are you brainless ARMY living in?
  6. [+43, -0] Korean ARMY are on the same level ㅋㅋㅋㅋ if you sit still, their karma for sexually harassing female idols will come back to them too ㅋㅋㅋ what the f*ck ㅋㅋㅋ Suga is the one that got drunk and rove, why are Jennie and Rose getting sexually harassed? You crazy psychotic South American ba$tards!
  7. [+42, -5] Looks like BTS fans are Blackpink’s biggest antis. Out of all of them, they beat up Rosé the most and Jennie and Rosé are their most hated. They used to always criticize Blackpink because they worried about them surpassing their overseas records but now they’re doing it openly. Because of them, Blackpink or Rosé will get #1 on Billboard and win a Grammy. They’re crossed the line with this mess. Boomerangs are a science.
  8. [+37, -0] Is this BTS’ “good” influence that ARMY kept yapping about?
  9. [+33, -1] Jennie, Rosé please file lawsuits!! How come they’ve never filed suits since debut? There are lot of kids that need to get arrested right now!
  10. [+31, -4] Last year, there was a rumor that Rosé was attending the Met Gala with Tiffany & Co., so the designer who was with them personally denied the rumor and certified that it was a prop so why are they still making rumors about it? ㅋㅋㅋ . Rosé didn’t even go to the Met Gala, it was their own work, but now not only Rosé and Jimin’s props, but all ARMYs are running around like this. YG and The Black Label should each take turns suing them. They’ve been consistently harassing them since last year?
  11. [+28, -0] They spread rumors about Rosé last year that ended up making it into Korea’s news ㅋㅋㅋ After the dating news came out, that fandom’s behavior toward Jennie is seriously infamous now. They terrorized her like crazy and always blame Blackpink fans for everything. They’re such a dirty group.. why are they grabbing others by the hair every time their fave does something wrong?
  12. [+18, -1] ARMY are really disgusting..
