“Director Kim Byeong‑woo on BLACKPINK’s Jisoo acting controversy: ‘Still, it was a good casting choice.’”
Kim Byeong‑woo, the director of the film Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint, shared his thoughts on Jisoo’s acting and any doubts around it:
“I’m aware of the controversy, but even that makes her casting stronger,” he said, speaking at an interview held on July 17 in Jongno-gu, Seoul, as the film’s release draws near .
Jisoo plays Lee Ji‑hye, a character introduced in the film’s halfway point. Kim explained that they needed a familiar face who’d make audiences think, “Who is that?” .
He added, “Her role is small so if Jisoo hadn’t taken it, it might’ve disappeared entirely.” .
Addressing fans upset about Lee Ji‑hye using firearms instead of swords (a change from the original novel), Kim acknowledged the concern but said the edit “adds variety to the action” and will make sense in context .
1. This must’ve been so embarrassing to Jisoo ㅎㅎ;
2. No but is that director trying to set her up…?
3. ㅋㅋㅋㅋ The wording is so funny. He’s basically saying that since her role is so small, he doesn’t care
4. ????? What is this supposed to mean… Isn’t this rude towards Jisoo..?;;
5. I don’t understand why they had to highlight BLACKPINK Jisoo like that and why they’re treating her like that
6. It’s thanks to Jisoo that this character is even receiving attention now. I don’t think he meant it in a bad way
7. No butㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ ㅠ This is too much …ㅠㅠ They just proved that her acting in the movie is really bad acting…
8. What is this director on about? Why is he talking like that?
9. I don’t know, but isn’t Jisoo there because she did the casting for the role? She worked hard to be cast..ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
10. Why are people so rude towards Jisoo nowadays? This doesn’t even sound like critics but straight up evil comments…
