As each member has chosen their own path for individual activities, BLACKPINK have diverse reasons for leaving YG
While BLACKPINK decided to renew with YG for group activities, each member will embark on their personal journey regarding individual schedules for diverse reasons.
According to industry insiders on January 6t, it was reported that Jennie has established her own label, “ODD ATELIER,” to pursue individual activities. “ODD ATELIER,” a label co-founded by Jennie and her mother, signifies a space for creating something new and noteworthy.
Jennie explained her aspirations for future activities, saying, “Even if the path of ODD ATELIER seems strange or different from others, I made the company with the determination to do well.”
“Although we have been together with the company and group activities for seven years, I wanted to pursue individual activities more freely and comfortably. Therefore, I founded the company with the crew I have been with for a long time“, Jennie added, before revealing her goal to release a full solo album within 2024.
Following Jennie, Jisoo has chosen to pursue individual activities alongside her family. Recently, it was reported that Jisoo will engage in personal activities under the newly established agency “Blissoo”, which is owned by her brother and associated with the health functional food brand “Biomom.”
Describing Blissoo, Biomom claimed that it will “grow globally in the K-pop industry faster than anyone else.”
“Expanding the entertainment business domestically and internationally to receive more love from K-pop fans, we are rapidly innovating the entertainment industry. We are recruiting talents to revolutionize the domestic and international K-pop markets together”, the company also stated.
Jisoo’s choice to collaborate with her brother allows her to reduce risks. Instead of establishing an individual planning agency, she opted for an expansion of the family business, minimizing various processes and costs associated with company establishment while utilizing her experience in operating the company.
However, the future plans of other members, Lisa and Rosé, remain uncertain. Lisa shared her thoughts in a December interview with Elle Taiwan following the reported failure to renew her individual activity contract with YG. She emphasized the collaborative and free expression of opinions among BLACKPINK members, highlighting the importance of trusting oneself and pursuing personal happiness.
“The most important thing is one’s happiness. I’m happy because I’m doing what I like,” Lisa said, adding, “I plan to appear in public again in some form in the future.”
Finally, Rosé released a season’s greeting ahead of the new year, leading to speculations about her renewing her individual contract with YG. However, it has since been announced that Rosé, like the rest of BLACKPINK, only renewed regarding group activities.
While Rosé’s future plans are not explicitly revealed, industry speculation suggests a high likelihood of Rosé continuing her solo music activities.
All in all, BLACKPINK has their diverse reasons for leaving YG, and the members have chosen to venture into individual activities, aiming to reduce risks and showcase a wider range of endeavors, in addition to their group identity.
