2021 witnessed the debut of IVE, establishing themselves as a sensation, followed by the impactful debut of NewJeans in 2022, contributing to the dominance of the 4th generation girl groups.
In 2023, the spotlight extended to rookie boy groups, notably ZEROBASEONE from Mnet’s “Boys Planet”, rapidly gaining global fandom support. Additionally, SM Entertainment’s rookie boy group RIIZE and KOZ Entertainment’s BOYNEXTDOOR also garnered attention with their approachable and melodious songs.
Anticipation is building for the upcoming year. Notably, YG Entertainment’s new girl group BABYMONSTER, which debuted with the single “BATTER UP”, showcased exceptional skills and visuals even before their official debut. The music video surpassed 100 million views on YouTube in about 18 days, making it the fastest K-pop group debut to reach this milestone.
Among the anticipated boy groups, Pledis Entertainment’s TWS (Twenty Four Seven With Us), which is set to debut after 9 years following SEVENTEEN, has been generating considerable interest. TWS, revealed through their team name, aims to spread positive energy with bright and refreshing music.
TWS has been regarded as a highly anticipated group, labeled as the “most anticipated rookie of 2024”. With their debut planned for the first quarter of the year, TWS is expected to make a significant impact, combining Pledis Entertainment’s creative capabilities with HYBE’s robust infrastructure.
Other groups, such as JTBC’s “R U NEXT?” final debut group I’LL-IT and JYP Entertainment’s boy group from SBS’s survival audition program “LOUD”, are also poised for official debuts in the coming year.
As these super rookies from major entertainment companies showcase ambitious plans and capture the excitement of K-pop fans worldwide, the spotlight is on which team will emerge as a trendsetter in the K-pop industry in 2024.
