[instiz] [EXCLUSIVE] TROP SINGER IM YOUNGWOONG, MECENATPOLIS PENTHOUSE SEIZED OVER TAX ARREARS

Trot singer Im Youngwoong’s property was seized due to overdue local taxes, a fact that was confirmed later through BizHankook’s investigation. The property seized was Im Youngwoong’s home, located in the “Mecenatpolis” mixed-use apartment building in Hapjeong-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul.

The Mapo District Office in Seoul seized the penthouse of Mecenatpolis, which Im Youngwoong owned, on October 16th of last year. Im Youngwoong had purchased the top-floor penthouse, which consists of only four units, for 5.1 billion won (3.4M USD) in September 2022. The apartment has a floor area of 223.31㎡ and a total area of 294.71㎡, featuring 5 rooms and 4 bathrooms.

[..] Since the Mapo District’s Collection Office is responsible for collecting local taxes, non-tax revenue, and traffic-related arrears, it can be inferred that Im Youngwoong had overdue taxes.

A representative from the Mapo District Office explained, “We cannot reveal what taxes Im Youngwoong is delinquent on due to privacy reasons, but property seizures are carried out when taxes or fines are overdue.”

The registration for the seizure on Im Youngwoong’s property was canceled on January 13th, just one month after the seizure was set. This suggests that Im Youngwoong paid off his overdue taxes within three months. However, if we include the collection notices and seizure period from the Mapo District Office, it took about a year for the seizure to be lifted. This raises the question of whether Im Youngwoong, one of South Korea’s top trot stars, may have been too careless about his “tax obligations.”

BizHankook attempted to contact Im Youngwoong’s agency, Fish Music, multiple times for comment, but was unable to reach them.
