The key education policy of the current Yoon administration was using AI-based digital textbooks and is expected to be phased out. Under Lee’s administration, these AI textbooks will be downgraded from official curriculum materials to optional educational resources, significantly weakening their role in schools. Despite a 1 trillion won investment and their partial implementation in English, math, and IT subjects for select grades, adoption rates remain low (around 33.4%). The incoming government plans to shift focus toward building a public platform offering diverse online learning content instead.
If the AI textbooks lose their official textbook status, they will no longer receive government financial support, making their use difficult for most schools due to high subscription costs and infrastructure demands.
