[instiz] ILLIT, HOW LONG ARE THESE “DDU-DDA-DDI” GOING TO LAST… ‘DO THE DANCE’ WAS GOOD BUT THERE’S A FLAW

Girl group ILLIT is receiving criticism for incorporating the ‘Ddu-dda-ddi’ vocal sound pattern into their new track “Do the Dance”, with some saying it feels “repetitive”. ILLIT has used a similar vocal pattern in past releases, which also failed to receive positive feedback. Once again, this particular sound is being pointed out as a blemish in an otherwise solid track.

On June 16 at 6 PM, ILLIT released their new mini album ‘BOMB’. […]

Right after the release, many listeners were reminded of ILLIT’s previous song “Tick-Tack”. One netizen on the platform X (formerly Twitter) commented, “The song is really good, but all the ‘ddu ddu ddu, dda dda dda, ddi ddi ddi’ parts are a bit too much. It’s getting tiring.” Another listener said, “That part already took me aback me last time, and hearing it again this time was even more surprising.”

With public opinion divided over the ‘Ddu-dda-ddi’ pattern, the song’s chart performance has shown some disappointment. While it successfully entered the Melon Main Chart Top 100, as of 3 PM on June 17, it was sitting at #85, a drop from its #50 placement earlier that morning.

That said, the song itself has been praised for its musical quality. Many comments include: “The album jacket and at least one song are really well done,” and “You can tell they put effort into this.” Overall, the album is receiving positive reviews for its high production value.

However, some listeners argue that there’s a lack of artistic growth compared to their previous work, “Tick-Tack.” The song reuses many elements: the 4/4 rhythm, heavy bass, video game-like sound effects, and electronic pads, leading critics to say that despite the more elaborate arrangement, it’s not enough of an evolution. The reuse of the already divisive ‘Ddu-dda-ddi’ vocal pattern is seen by some as a risky and uninspired choice.

1. Their songs are always the same so I’ve stopped listening.. People said that this song was good so I tried listening to it the moment it was released, but it was again the same thing, so I just closed it

2. The moment the intro started, I thought “the instrumental? is so good” but then the lyrics started and I just got turned off

3. They’re always releasing good songs, I’m enjoying listening to the new song again

4. Me too I think like that.. But the moment you say their song is so so, people treat you like a hater

5. The song seriously is freaking bad. I’m considering joining the fandom and I like all of ILLIT’s members but the songs are so bad, I’m mad at their company

6. People who like their previous songs will like it. I’m like that

7. Lucky Syndrome and Magnetic were seriously freaking good… + Almond Chocolate too

8. I agree with the title, I’m tired of those ddu-dda-ddi, why are they always putting them in their songs?

9. The song is good, it’s perfect for Summer

10. Their songs are becoming worse and worse
