[Exclusive] Financial authorities plan to file a criminal complaint with the prosecution against HYBE chairman Bang Sihyuk over stock market fraud allegations

Financial authorities have decided to file a criminal complaint with the prosecution against Bang Sihyuk, the chairman of entertainment agency HYBE, on charges of stock market fraud. He is suspected of misleading existing investors during the process of HYBE’s stock market listing by falsely stating that there were no plans to go public, prompting them to sell their shares. Afterward, he allegedly gained listing profits amounting to 200 billion won (~ $145 million USD). Authorities have also decided to take the same action against three current and former HYBE executives suspected of participating in the scheme. Filing a criminal complaint with the prosecution is the highest level of sanction the financial authorities can impose on an individual suspected of violating the Capital Markets Act.
