[instiz] JEON SOMI, ‘RUDE’ PUTTING HER FEET UP IN A TAXI… IS SHE SO INTOXICATED WITH HER ‘HIPNESS’ THAT SHE FORGOT PUBLIC MORALITY?

Singer Jeon Somi has found herself at the center of a public morals controversy over a single social media photo taken inside a Japanese taxi.

On the 27th, Jeon Somi posted a photo of her daily life on her social media with the short caption, “One random day.”

In the photo, Jeon Somi is seen leaning against the seat of a moving taxi in Japan, her feet draped over the seat with her shoes on.

While the photo had a free and hip vibe, controversy erupted when it was revealed that it was taken inside a Japanese taxi.

Japan is known for its strict etiquette on public transportation, including taxis, and in commercial vehicles. Against this backdrop, the image of the actor placing his shoes on the seat was met with criticism, calling it “rude by local standards.”

Indeed, some netizens responded, saying, “It’s not about being hip, it’s inconsiderate,” “Does she have an overly light-hearted attitude toward public morals?” and “She pretends to be this global star active in Japan, she should have been more careful.”

In particular, given that taxis are not private spaces but rather shared commercial spaces for drivers and passengers, the argument that public etiquette should be observed is gaining ground. Some responded, “It’s uncomfortable to see in Korea, but it’s even more so in Japan.”

On the other hand, there were also many supportive opinions, such as, “This is excessive criticism based on a single photo,” “It could have been a chartered vehicle or a means of transportation for filming,” and “Calling this rude is an overreaction.” Some also believe that this should be viewed as an extension of Jeon So-mi’s signature free-spirited concept and fashion direction.

However, for a star like Jeon Somi, who holds significant international influence, even the smallest actions are inevitably interpreted within a cultural context, further fueling the controversy. A heated debate is raging over the boundaries between “being hip” and “public morality.”

Meanwhile, Jeon Somi, born in 2001, released her second mini-album “Chaotic & Confused” in August of last year and promoted its title track, “Closer.” She will then venture into acting in the thriller film “Perfect Girl.”

The film, a global project based on K-pop, stars Adeline Rudolph and Arden Cho.

1. This girl always involved in some types of negative gossips

2. But you can see that she’s not touching the seat with her shoes though?

3. Is the journalist creating their own controversies??

4. She’s just making her feet float midair though??? And when I look at her IG, I don’t see any of those comments???

5. The moment I saw the photo, I thought “What is she doing?” but why are people debating over whether the feet touched the seat or not… ㅋㅋㅋ

6. She’s just doing this to take a photo for her IG, I bet if she grabbed the seat with her two hands and didn’t lift her feet, she’d still get an article written about her to make up controversies

7. No but we don’t even know if she’s in a taxi, and her feet aren’t even touching the seat

8. This is so forced

9. I thought that she just wanted to show off her shoes and posed cutely with it?

10. Are those new shoes? The soles are clean. Also, if it’s someone else’s car, not yours, you should be careful whether you put your feet on the seat or not.
