[instiz/naver] NEWJEANS, FIRST TRIAL IN APRIL REGARDING THEIR EXCLUSIVE CONTRACT LAWSUIT… WILL THEY BE INDEPENDENT FROM ADOR?

The lawsuit between the agency ADOR and the members of the girl group NewJeans, who are in dispute over their exclusive contracts, will begin in April.

According to the legal industry on the 6th, the Civil Division 41 of the Seoul Central District Court (Chief Judge Jeong Hoe-il) has scheduled the first hearing for ADOR’s lawsuit to confirm the validity of the exclusive contract with the NewJeans members on April 3 at 11:30 AM.

The NewJeans members had announced at a press conference in November last year that their exclusive contract with ADOR had been terminated, and they revealed plans to regain the name ‘NewJeans’ through future lawsuits and pursue independent activities.

They also stated that they would not be returning to ADOR and expressed their intention to independently pursue activities, including participating in a competition for a new activity name, to prepare for the future.

In response, ADOR filed a lawsuit with the Seoul Central District Court in December last year, claiming that the exclusive contract with NewJeans is still valid.

Additionally, ADOR filed for an injunction to prevent the NewJeans members from entering into independent advertising contracts and engaging in activities on their own, seeking to maintain its position as the agency.

At the time, ADOR stated, ‘It is regrettable that the members are attempting independent entertainment activities, such as running a competition for a new activity name, before a legal judgment is made, as it could constitute a serious breach of contract.’

In response, NewJeans issued a separate statement, announcing that they had appointed the law firm Sejong, which represents Min Hee-jin, the producer of NewJeans and former CEO of ADOR, as their legal representative to prepare for legal action against ADOR’s injunction.

Meanwhile, Min Hee-jin, the creator of NewJeans and former CEO of ADOR, is also continuing a legal battle with HYBE, which owns ADOR as an affiliate.

After the first hearing of a lawsuit over the termination of the shareholder agreement on January 23, the second hearing will be held on April 17.
