While NCT’s Taeyong made his solo comeback after 8 months by releasing a new song, there is ongoing controversy over his music video.
[…]
‘TAP’ is a unique hip-hop song that combines groovy, modern drums, an 808 bass track, and rock and blues-style guitar sounds, and the addictive and easy-to-follow rap that flows over a variety of instruments adds to the fun of listening.
Because of this, the music video attracted a lot of attention, but opinions were mixed once the music video was released.
In the opening, Taeyong looked excited as he said he was going to run his first errand in a room full of tatami mats. Along with this, there was a subtitle at the top that read ‘Taeyong’s Errand,’ which is a parody of the long-running Japanese program ‘My First Errand,’ which has been on the air since 1991.
As the MV was filmed in Japan, Taeyong was shown wandering around Tokyo, stopping by an arcade to play and trying to buy dango from a bathhouse. The second half of the music video also parodied the method of listing sponsors as captions just like in Japanese programs.
Some people are reacting with disappointment over his new video. Their argument is that even though it was a parody of Japanese programs, there was no need to film it in Japan in a way that would show them off. In particular, since dango is a representative snack in Japan, many people said that it would have been enough to just buy rice cakes (ddeok) while filming in Korea.
Additionally, some people expressed doubts about the fact that the music video was full of Japanese subtitles even though it was not an album released in Japan. In particular, some responded that they did not understand why Taeyong released a Japanese-style music video even though he is not a Japanese member.
However, there were some who responded that it was not a big problem as it was simply filmed in a Japanese location. Additionally, there was an opinion that since the music video was based on the concept of parodying entertainment, it was not a problem in itself.
Meanwhile, the choreography for Taeyong’s new song ‘TAP’ was done by Lee Jung, and dance crew Tsubakill, famous for their appearance in ‘SWF 2’, appeared in the music video.
1. Even articles are out now ㅋㅋㅋ
2. This timing is a bit… It’s almost March 1st (National Independence Day)
3. Honestly it was bad. If the video was on mute, you’d think it’s just a Japanese shooting a Japanese MV
4. I just wonder… Why
5. It’s true that just watching the MV, you’d think it’s a Japanese comeback
6. This is so wrong
7. Who cares….?ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ So it’s not an issue when they go overseas and shoot with foreigners…?
> Japan is not the same thing as overseas
8. I find Taeyong likable and I watched the MV but I hate Japan
9. Doing KPOP while filming Japan or doing right-wing stuff is all oba, take down this MV
10. I thought it was a Japanese person, singing a Japanese song in Japan
[instiz] TAEYONG’S NEW SONG’S MV FILLED WITH JAPANESE CONCEPT
I thought it was a Japanese album’s MV
But it was a Korean release and it’s his solo album
Why was it necessary to shoot it like a Japanese variety show..
1. Kids… This is Japan we’re talking about, Japan… Not any other countries, but Japan ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Are the comments here foreal?
2. It’s indeed unnecessary but does he warrant this much hate?
3. Huh is that a concept?? Is the song related to dangos? How is this necessary?
4. The comments shielding him are turning me off even more, seriously he went too far ㅜ
> Me too I thought I was reading wrong
5. Why are people turned off? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ It’s not like he’s popular to start with
6. Looks like he loves Japan, I hate it though
7. Maybe because Japanese things are popular nowadays, he wanted to portray them?
8. I know that Taeyong is fond of Japan but doing this when March 1st is approaching feels so forced
9. Even if it’s fine to do it, why do it right in front of March 1st? ㅋㅋ
10. Hmm, yeah I’m not thinking much of it..
