RM, a member of the group BTS, confessed that he suffered from insomnia due to incidents involving his agency, HYBE.
On June 10, RM held a live broadcast to commemorate his discharge from the Army’s 15th Infantry Division military band, where he communicated with fans in real time.
During the broadcast, RM shared, “Military life was really tough. Not just the military itself, but I had a hard time sleeping,” adding, “It was the first time I ever had trouble falling asleep.”
He went on to say, “Around April and May of last year, there were so many things going on at the company (HYBE). I ended up with insomnia,” and revealed, “There was even a time when I couldn’t sleep for 78 hours straight, not even for a minute. There was just too much going on outside.”
The period RM referred to (April of last year) was when tensions between HYBE and former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin reached their peak. At the time, HYBE launched an audit of ADOR and filed a police report accusing Min of breach of duty in an alleged attempt to seize management control.
Recalling that period, RM said, “I had daily duties to perform, but I couldn’t go on without sleep. I eventually started relying on sleeping pills, but they caused side effects, and I couldn’t function properly.”
He added that he still hasn’t been able to quit sleeping pills: “I’ve been taking them for about a year and two months now, and I think I’ve gotten a bit better. But even now, I’m afraid of falling asleep.”
