SHINee’s Key reflected on the past when he felt like he had no presence in the group.
On the 12th, tvN’s variety program ‘Yoo Quiz on the Block’ released a pre-release video on their official YouTube channel.
In the video, Key confessed his honest feelings about his time in SHINee, saying, ‘The group was doing well, but I felt like I had no presence at all.’ He added, ‘It didn’t feel like this group was mine.’
Key appeared on ‘Yoo Quiz’ with his mother. He mentioned, ‘My mother had two heart surgeries,’ and his mother also shared, ‘I was at the crossroads between life and death,’ which was heartbreaking.
Then, Jo Seho asked, ‘Is this a memory with your mom, or was your dad always there too?’ Key replied, ‘He’s there. A lot of people misunderstand, but my dad is there. He’s there,’ and then shared a text message he exchanged with his father.
In the text message, Key’s father wrote, ‘Beom-ah, last year you appeared on “I Live Alone” and had a huge success. This year, your status has risen dramatically with the January “I Live Alone” episode,’ and ‘This time, when you appear with your mom on ‘Yoo Quiz’, your popularity will skyrocket. It’s at times like this that…,’ making everyone laugh.

1. Huh?? I feel like every SHINee member stands out
2. I’m being really honest, he used to be the least popular SHINee member… But now, the tables have totally reversed ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
3. As an idol, you really need to try a little bit of everything
4. I’m sure he’ll say more about it later, that’s why you need to watch the episode
5. He said something similar in the past too, it’s nice that he’s honest… In the end, he got his own popularity
6. It’s because the main positions are the ones that stand out the most, but Key didn’t have a main position, yet he’s still doing well
7. That’s true, he had the least buzz factor in the past, which makes him even more impressive seeing how big he grew
8. He’s just being honest. I’m sure the public also felt like that… But he was able to build himself up all the way there👍
9. The fact that he had those feelings but kept working hard, and managing himself, he deserves his spot
10. Huh? I felt like Key was meant to be an idol ever since he debuted. I’ve always been a fan
[instiz] KEY “AFTER THE PASSING OF THE LATE JONGHYUN, I WONDERED IF I SHOULD’VE STOPPED EVERYTHING, SHINEE WILL ALWAYS BE FIVE”
On this day, Key mentioned, ‘I was really shaken at that time. I kept wondering, what is life? I even thought about quitting everything,’ referring to the death of late Jonghyun.
Key said, ‘I was really broken and struggling, and the concert in Tokyo Dome was like a performance where we said, ‘Let’s all get through this together.’ He continued, ‘If there’s no place for everyone to honor him, it would be too difficult. We also wanted to send him off that way, with hyung’s brilliant and short youth.’
He added, ‘Every year, when his birthday or the anniversary of his passing comes, I really miss him, and when new songs come out that we can’t record together, I think, ‘He would have done this so well.’ While practicing, I dreamed about him a lot. It’s not like he says anything like a revelation, but when we have concert meetings, he’s just sitting there. He’s there when we practice. He’s always with us. It’s always the five of us
