Amid the ongoing police investigation into allegations of improper service by idol group WINNER’s Song Mino (31), it has been analyzed that he could face imprisonment if it is revealed that he left his post for more than 8 days without a valid reason.

Song Mino was diagnosed with social anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, and panic disorder, and received a 4th-grade supplementary service classification during his military physical examination. He began alternative service at the Seoul Mapo District Facility Management Corporation in March last year and worked at the Mapo Residents’ Convenience Facility from March of this year until he was discharged on the 23rd of this month.
However, recent reports have surfaced claiming that Song Mino did not show up for work properly, leading to the controversy over his poor service.
A social service worker (A) who worked with Song Mino and a staff member (B) from the residents’ convenience facility testified that Song Mino rarely showed up for work. A said, “At worst, I only saw him once or twice a month,” and B claimed, “In 10 months, I saw him only two or three times.”
The person in charge of Song Mino’s attendance told the production team, “If I say something wrong, it could be applied in a way that’s disadvantageous to Mino. If given the opportunity later, I’ll talk about it.”
Song Mino had previously revealed that he had been suffering from mental health issues since 2017. However, during this period, he was actively involved in singing, acting in movies, appearing on variety shows, attending overseas schedules, and holding a solo exhibition.
Moreover, in May of last year, two months after starting his alternative service, he attended his sister’s wedding in San Francisco, USA, and in October, he traveled to Hawaii with a friend. Both locations require over a 10-hour long-haul flight to reach.
A mental health specialist commented, “If his panic symptoms were severe enough to prevent him from working, the symptoms may have worsened significantly. If he really had trouble with interpersonal work due to his symptoms, it would have affected him, especially considering he’s someone who receives attention in front of many people.”
The Military Manpower Administration stated, “We have referred the matter for investigation and will take action based on the results. Various regulations, such as false service or obstruction of public duties, could be applied.”
Regarding the possibility of Song Mino ‘s allegations being confirmed, lawyer Kim Yoo-don stated, “If he leaves his post without a valid reason for more than 8 days, there is a punishment regulation of up to 3 years in prison. The period of service absences would be multiplied by five and added to his required service time.
