In an interview with SPOTV News on the 15th, TOP revealed the reason for his departure from BIGBANG, saying, “I told the members that I would leave the group because I didn’t want to cause them any more harm.”

He explained his departure from BigBang by saying, “I, as a person, have caused so much harm to the team, BigBang, and the previous company (YG) due to my mistakes. So, for several years, I’ve told the company and the members that I would no longer bring them any more harm, and that I would leave the team.”

He continued, “Now, whatever I do alone, the criticism is something I must endure, and the rebukes are something I must bear alone. However, if I were to return to the group, the label of my mistakes would also attach to the members, which would be shameful for them, and it would cause me so much pain that I’ve been saying for a long time that I would leave.”

TOP also shared, “When I see comments from fans or people wanting a reunion, it breaks my heart. I wanted to make things clear, but for me, looking at pictures of the family (BigBang) that has separated is a pain and suffering that only those involved can truly understand. So, I think it was too hasty to take that route, but that wasn’t my intention.”

He also expressed his ongoing affection for BigBang.

TOP stated that he does not currently keep in touch with the other BigBang members. He said, “To be honest, I’m not in contact with them at the moment. I’m not exactly sure how long it’s been, but I guess it’s been a while since my mind has calmed down,” adding, “Right now, I still feel so sorry, so I haven’t been able to contact them easily.”

When asked if the members tried to stop him from leaving, TOP said, “There are some ambiguous parts, but I think it’s careless to speak about members and people who aren’t here. However, after being discharged from my military service, it’s been about five to six years since I decided to leave. I had been thinking about it clearly even before announcing my departure.”
