[instiz] TRIPLES WHO RECEIVED A BAD REVIEW FROM AN INDUSTRY CRITIC BECAUSE THEY LIP-SYNCED

I attended the showcase for the new album by the 24-member girl group tripleS. Watching the 90-minute event, I was left with a fundamental question: “What is the point of a showcase in K-pop?”

(t/n: original tweets in link)

They performed three new songs, including the title track “Are You Alive,” and presented various entertainment segments. Fun elements like dancing to other artists’ challenge songs for fan service are understandable. Surprisingly, all three new song performances were lip-synced. I had expected at least one of them to be sung live.

When even the final performance (the title track) turned out to be lip-synced, I felt a surge of frustration. Why invite critics if you’re not going to present a proper live stage? If it turns out it was live and I was mistaken, I’ll gladly apologize. However, I didn’t hear any live vocals from the members, and the other critics I attended with shared the same opinion.

With a setup like today’s, it would be perfectly fine as an event just for fans to enjoy among themselves. However, if you’re going to invite industry professionals or critics in hopes of receiving musical evaluation, I believe you should at least show the courtesy of preparing one live performance.

Some may consider a stage with enthusiastic dancing and lip-syncing to still qualify as a showcase, but I don’t. If future showcases don’t include live performances, there’s no need to invite me.

Separately, the new album, the title track “Are You Alive,” and the performance itself are all quite compelling. That’s a different matter entirely.

1. We’re living in a time where singing live is the ‘rare occurrence’

2. They’re 24 members, which means one person will sing at most for 10 seconds and they still can’t pull off their live? What’s so hard? They’re not even a group that has intense dances. If they’re not confident, they can even have 2-3 people sing at the same time

3. The fact that K-pop has this kind of showcase is deplorable

4. This isn’t just a problem with this specific group. None of the idol groups sing live nowadays. Meanwhile, they also have stopped dancing ‘full out’ they don’t even sing a song that lasts 3 minutes and they don’t have a single high note. They just go for easy-listening songs and don’t even bother singing live. This is honestly crossing the line

5. Do kids like aespa sing live in showcase?

6. They have so many members so aren’t the parts super short too..? Why are they lip-syncing?

7. Why would they call a critic? What were they expecting?

8. Hul… with this many people, this is shocking.. They don’t even have 10 seconds each, why is everyone lip-syncing nowadays… This is so shocking… If you can’t even sing for 10 seconds, you’re not a singer, but a cover dance artist. What’s different between this and a commoner…

9. But why does he sound so mad..

10. Wow ㅋㅋ The way some fans just expects everything to be lip-synced now, we really can’t call them singers anymore
