Former NCT member Taeil’s (real name Moon Taeil) first trial for aggravated quasi-r* has been postponed to June.
According to confirmation by Maeil Business Star Today on the 9th, the initial hearing for Taeil and two co-defendants, who have been charged with violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of S****l Crimes (aggravated quasi-r***), was originally scheduled to be held on the 12th at the 26th Criminal Division (Section D) of the Seoul Central District Court, but has now been postponed to June 18.
While the exact reason for the delay has not been disclosed, it is speculated that the postponement is related to former President Yoon Suk-yeol’s third trial for insurrection charges being held at the same court on the same day, potentially raising safety concerns.
In March, the Women and Children Crime Investigation Division 1 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office (led by Chief Prosecutor Kim Ji-hye) indicted Taeil and two accomplices without detention on charges of aggravated quasi-r*** under the S****l Violence Punishment Act. The three are accused of SA an intoxicated woman in June of last year.
When the police initially applied the charge of aggravated quasi-r***, speculation arose that a weapon may have been involved in the crime. However, it was later confirmed that this was not the case. This specific charge applies when a victim is r***d while unconscious or unable to resist, with the involvement of a weapon or two or more perpetrators acting together.
After receiving the victim’s report, the police applied for arrest warrants for all three suspects. However, the court rejected the request, citing the suspects’ admission of the crime and a perceived lack of necessity for detention. The police summoned Taeil for questioning in August and referred the case to the prosecution in September.
