In the 2nd and 3rd generations of K-pop, having a long mid-face was often considered pretty, and it was actually a beauty standard because it made one look more mature (Girls’ Generation’s Yoona and Yuri are the representatives).
But, after BLACKPINK’s Jennie came out, the beauty standard shifted to favor f*cking short mid-faces. Now, in the 4th generation, almost all female idols have short mid-faces, making them look younger and doll-like (For ex, NewJeans, LE SSERAFIM, IVE, aespa, ILLIT, etc.)
It’s hard to find female idols with longer mid-faces now. Most have short or average-length mid-faces. If someone has a long mid-face now, they’re often seen as looking older, so nobody stans them and they are not popular.
The problem is that most Koreans tend to have longer mid-faces…. with more space under the eyes. This can’t be fixed with surgery; it’s something you’re born with, so people are becoming severely obsessed with this.
Because of the increasing obsession, we now have makeup techniques being developed to make mid-faces appear shorter. Those born with short mid-faces are considered being born lucky… So, if you have a big head and a long mid-face, it’s considered one of the worst combinations… being born again might seem like the only solution for you.
To summarize, the reasons for the current obsession with mid-face length are: 1) the beauty standard now favors short mid-faces, 2) many Koreans naturally have longer mid-faces, and 3) it’s something that can’t be fixed with surgery…

Out of the celebrities you posted, I’ve never thought that any of them had a long mid-face. Also, it’s true that if you have a long mid-face, then your face is hopeless…

Who care about the mid-face? Facial harmony is the most important. The current idols just look like idols. But top-tier 2nd gen idols not only look like idols but also looked like actresses

Is my standard of beauty strange then? I find that kids who look like Yoona are way prettier than the ones mentioned in this post. The ones in OP’s post just look way too child-like. I feel like Jang Wonyoung’s mid-face has gotten longer nowadays after losing weight and that’s why she’s been looking prettier. Maybe because idols with short mid-face back then also had shorter face so they just look meh
