I used to work as a staff member, and I have a lot of connections in the entertainment industry, so I know that idols, whether they’re rookies or a devoted member, pretty much date anyone. It’s actually a very obvious thing, but fans and the public often say things like, “They probably don’t have a girlfriend,” when in reality, they’re just secretly seeing someone. The ways they meet are really diverse: clubs, fellow trainees, introductions through mutual connections, etc. And surprisingly, they often date commoners too. If an idol’s dating rumors don’t make it to the public, it’s usually because they’re dating a commoner. Unless they’re a super famous influencer, idols who date commoners mostly meet through mutual gatherings or introductions from acquaintances. Sometimes, a friend of theirs will ask to be introduced to the idol, and they’ll bring them to a gathering. It’s pretty common for idols from the same agency to be linked together, but in such cases, most of the time, they probably already dated and broke up while they were still trainees.

As for male idols with intense sasaeng fans, they sometimes wear manager clothes and call a taxi in front of their dorms or make restaurant reservations through the manager’s phone. 

The idols waiting rooms are the most interesting. They’re all on their phones, chatting with their girlfriends. They often give each other relationship advice. If there are pretty staff members, they’ll ask for their numbers after a shoot or at a gathering. A friend of mine had a famous male idol ask for her number twice. Also, if an idol says they want to get their driver’s license, it’s often a signal that they’re in a relationship. But even if they don’t have a license, many idols still get around in taxis or their girlfriend’s car. On the other hand, idols who have a license tend to drive their manager’s car or a taxi because fans often know the car model they usually drive. Idols without a license do this kind of thing because they don’t want to be recognized. And when both people are idols, they often meet in their cars while going between schedules. If you don’t see them in the waiting room or the dressing room often, there’s a high chance they went to meet their girlfriend.

As for idols who are suspected of dating because they’re always on their phones, those are usually the ones who are more innocent. Many idols have separate phones for contacting their girlfriends. I once found an abandoned iPhone 7 at a shoot, and a male idol who was using a Galaxy said it was his and took it. Regarding personality, these days rumors spread easily, so more idols who act like they’re above others are the ones causing controversy. The ones who are just a slightly rude are more common, but that’s actually worse. You can feel from their eyes that they think they’re above you. Anyway, don’t spend too much money on idols. Most of it goes toward their girlfriend’s gifts and date costs. The busier the celebrity, the more money they spend on their girlfriend because they feel bad for not having time for her.
