Reminiscence post of a YouTuber who received “acting lessons” from Lee Sun-kyun during his college days

Many fellow celebrities, acquaintances and neighbors express their sadness over the death of the late actor Lee Sun-kyun

Those who worked on projects and communicated with him are posting tributes to the deceased. YouTuber Oh Jong-hyun, who operates the YouTube channel “arochika”, also commemorated him.

On Dec 27th, a post titled “<My Celebrity>” was published on the community board of the YouTube channel “arochika”.

Oh Jong-hyun recounted an incident from his high school days. He mentioned being a member of the school’s drama club during high school and taking acting classes from Lee Sun-kyun, who was the younger brother of the teacher in charge.

At that time, Lee Sun-kyun was a senior at the Korea National University of Arts, and for one semester, he personally conducted after-school acting classes for the students.

Oh Jong-hyun described Lee Sun-kyun, “He was very tall. His voice was good, and although he wasn’t a statue-like pretty boy, he had his own style. He was easygoing. He played basketball and bought us snacks at the school snack bar. He was polite and good-natured. He never looked down on us.”

After one semester of classes, Lee Sun-kyun had become a star. However, Oh Jong-hyun confessed that when he happened to meet Lee Sun-kyun again, he saw “Korea National University of Arts 4th-year student Lee Sun-kyun”, not “star Lee Sun-kyun”.

Oh Jong-hyun said, “He greeted us with a friendly smile. At least the Lee Sun-kyun I knew wasn’t a celebrity who could be prejudiced against. He was easygoing.”

Even as a top actor in Korean movies and dramas, he still preserved the image of himself during his university days before diving into acting wholeheartedly.

Lee Sun-kyun was a source of pride for Oh Jong-hyun. To see a university student who taught him acting become the lead actor in the movie “Parasite”, which won big prizes at the Academy Awards, was a source of pride.

Perhaps that’s why Oh Jong-hyun could not find the right words to express his grief upon hearing the news of the deceased.

He continued, “I can’t accurately know the truth behind the issues that led to the deceased’s death, but I had a vague belief that he wasn’t that kind of person.”

He concluded his post, “Thank you. Even from afar, the time I spent watching your acting was more than happiness. Rest in peace.”
