Rowoon has been criticized for his acting, acceptance speeches and MC qualification since the beginning of the year
Actor Rowoon hosted the 2023 KBS Drama Awards at KBS New Hall in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul on December 31st last year along with broadcaster Jang Sung-kyu and actress Seol In-ah.
Throughout the whole event, Rowoon read the script on the prompter in front of him like a robot, perhaps he was nervous. As if he was embarrassed, Jang Sung-gyu said, “Please get back your soul”. Unlike the other two MCs who were already familiar with reading scripts, Rowoon kept fixing his eyes on the prompter.
Rowoon has been hosting events more than 10 times since his debut and he even became a regular MC in an audition program recently. Nevertheless, some viewers said they couldn’t see his skills and efforts.
Moreover, Rowoon even beat Jang Dong-yoon of the drama “Oasis”, which topped the rating chart of KBS miniseries with 9.7%, to win Top Excellence Award. This resulted in netizens’ criticism over KBS’s ignorance of Jang Dong-yoon.
Apart from that, Rowoon’s acceptance speech was also controversial. He said, “As a person who likes acting, I’m constantly trying to become a person who acts well. Please look forward to me with clouded eyes”.
“Clouded eyes” means ignoring and pretending not to know something even though you know it is wrong. Only Rowoon knows the hidden meaning behind it, but many people understand it as a request for viewers to understand his poor acting skills.
It was Rowoon who ruined the image he had built. It didn’t take long for the good impression from his promotion with SF9 and various acting activities to collapse.
