Yuju, a solo artist and former member of the group GFRIEND, appeared on the show “Ask Us Anything” and candidly opened up about her recent struggles, including drastic weight loss, health issues, and even being advised to seek psychiatric care.
On the episode of KBS Joy’s “Ask Us Anything” that aired on the 11th, Yuju appeared and confessed to the psychological stress and health problems she has faced since going solo.
On the show, Yuju shared her struggles, saying, “As soon as I start preparing for an album, I become so sensitive that my appetite completely disappears.” She surprised everyone by revealing, “When I was active with GFRIEND, I was about 169 cm tall and weighed 52 kg, but recently I’ve dropped to 45 kg.”
“At first, I didn’t think much of the weight loss,”Yuju admitted, adding, “I naively thought that losing weight would make me look prettier.” However, the situation gradually became more serious.
Yuju confessed, “There was even a time when I collapsed alone at home and woke up,” and explained, “I couldn’t eat more than three spoonfuls of rice, so I even had an endoscopy.”
Although the internal medicine examination showed no issues with her digestive system, Yuju was instead referred to a psychiatrist. “When I asked why, they said it was more likely due to psychological causes than problems with my stomach or digestive system,” she said. “That was when I first realized I had become much more sensitive than I thought.”
Her health issues didn’t stop at a loss of appetite. Yuju revealed that she even experienced strange symptoms in her ear during a recording session. She explained, “One of my ears sounded strange, so I went to the hospital, and they told me that even the eardrum needs a certain amount of fat, but that fat had disappeared.”
Consequently, the doctor recommended prioritizing meals over prescribing medication. Yuju confessed, “At the hospital, I was told to eat first, rather than take medicine.”
Upon hearing this, MC Lee Soo-geun expressed his concern. He offered sincere advice, saying, “You’re an amateur. How can you comfort the public with that kind of attitude?” and added, “If you’re a professional, you have to take care of your own body first.”
1. There’s really nothing I can do about the emotional stuff… It’s just that she feels overwhelmed…
2. Aigo….
3. When I was feeling lethargic, I didn’t feel like eating and lost my appetite, so I lost 7 kg. But once the cause of my lethargy was resolved, my appetite miraculously returned, and now I’m back to my original weight. It’s amazing how the mind works
4. I know, that really sucks. Some people gain weight when they’re stressed, while others lose it, and it looks like Yuju is the type who loses weight. It’s not something to envy, she needs to eat, but she feels like her throat is completely stuffed, so she just “can’t” eat… I used to be like that
5. Aigoㅠㅠ Even as a non-celebrity, I diet so I can’t imagine how hard it is for herㅠㅠ I hope that she takes care of her health wellㅠㅠ
6. Since the digestive system and mental health are closely linked, I’ve heard that there’s a lot of collaboration with psychiatrists when patients have severe indigestion
7. Even at 52, at that height, she’s considered super skinnyㅜ Since her job is all about appearance, it must be tough
8. In fact, she actually looked much healthier back when she was in a girl group (though I thought she was super skinny even then, but compared to now…ㅠㅠ). It seems like she’s aware of the problem herself and has been staying pretty active, so I really hope she finds a healthy way to manage it ㅠㅠ
9. At 170, even weighing 54-53 kg would be considered “bone skinny” but 45 kg is just, wow………. I don’t think she’s healthy
10. Seriously, seems like she was under a lot of stress
