There have been some negative articles about Jennie’s concert, and the content seems to be just nonsensical complaints like “10 minutes late, 70-minute performance, revealing outfits, wearing sunglasses so you can’t see her expressions.” These baseless criticisms only seem to fuel fans’ frustration, and I decided to write this because I felt so upset after reading them.
I like most of the female idols these days, and due to work, I often get invited to concerts and showcases for 2nd-4th generation girl groups. From dance singers who debuted as a soloist in the 1.5 generation (?), I’ve attended every concert since my school days.
First of all, Jennie was truly, truly beautiful, stunning, and amazing. It was impressive how she prepared choreography for songs that didn’t even have music videos.
However, this was the first time I experienced a concert that ended in just 67 minutes (started at 6:10 PM, ended at 7:17 PM).
Ticket prices ranged from 143,000 won to 220,000 won ($97~$140), and these days, it’s nearly impossible to get tickets without fan club pre-sales (especially for top-tier artists like Jennie). I also paid a 30,000 won ($20) membership fee for the fan club.”
“Including transportation costs, most people spent at least 200,000 won ($136) to attend this concert.
It’s not just about the money, but even people living in the metropolitan area had to make a round trip to the Inspire Arena, which is in a transportation desert, and decided to spend one of their precious weekends to watch Jennie’s first solo concert.
(Of course! That being said, there are many fans who come from overseas of their own accord, and I’m not saying that artists should take care of fan club membership fees, transportation costs, or travel time. I’m just describing the general audience’s expectations and emotions in chronological order due to these processes.)
So, after going through all that effort to get to the concert, it ended in just 67 minutes. During the last song, “Twin,” when the curtain was closing, many people, including a stranger sitting next to me, were confused and murmuring, wondering if it was over. They couldn’t leave. (There was no encore, and I think that was more of an issue with the audience. My friends and I were shouting for an encore, but international fans just left all at once… I’ve never seen this before, and it was really shocking.)”
“But after attending the concert, I didn’t even want to listen to the Ruby album, which I had been repeating all day, and whenever Jennie appeared on YouTube, I felt negative emotions. I hated the situation itself.
I don’t want to belittle Jennie as an artist, but no matter how much I think about it, this seems like a promotional issue, and I even started to wonder if this was a result of a one-person agency.
When I read the comments from Jennie’s fans on negative articles, many of them said that the concert was basically a showcase and that it had been promoted as such, so what were people expecting? On the Interpark reservation page, Naver’s concert information, even on the Odd Atelier (Jennie’s agency) site, and the jenn.ie site that was linked for more concert info, there was no mention of it being a showcase, no mention of 15 songs being performed, and the genre was listed as “Concert.” Fans say it’s not a problem because they all know, but where and how was this information actually communicated? Was it something that general attendees could easily and clearly find in the detailed concert information?”
“I looked up the ticket prices for the 2023 BLACKPINK world tour, and they ranged from 120,000 won to 220,000 won ($82~$150). Even considering inflation, with ticket prices at this level, people generally have certain expectations about the “type of concert” they’re about to experience.
It was a bit surprising that only 15 songs from the album were performed in just 40 minutes, but the concert was also named The Ruby Experience. I also agree that adding solo and “You & Me” would disrupt the overall flow of the concert. I can understand that.
However, with this setup, calling it a “first solo concert” and charging regular concert ticket prices just doesn’t feel right. The outfits, hair, stage setup, and production lacked any wow factor. There was just nothing special about it.”
“The performance I was most excited about was the ZEN stage. I imagined Jennie would appear from a lotus flower, or wear the outfit and sparkling headpiece from the scene in the music video where she has wings, with countless dancers in white outfits sitting on stairs, performing a group dance like in the music video.
There were so many cool performance elements in the ZEN music video that could have been brought to the stage, but instead, we saw her in a black jacket with sunglasses, and when she sang “fire” and “aura,” some fireballs just shot out… I was like, “What is this?”
Was it a concert focusing on the essence and music, without any flashy tricks?
But for that, the sound quality was terrible… Jennie’s voice was drowned out with echoing noise, and it was hard to hear her live.
Also, I actually think this sounds absurd: We didn’t go expecting a concert like Lee Juck or Kim Dong-ryul’s (t/n: ballad singers). The reason we’re crazy about Jennie is, of course, because of her singing, rapping, and dancing skills, but I believe her visuals and sense of style play a huge role too. Especially since this album’s music videos became popular for their aesthetic and extravagant outfits and direction.”
“The screenshots below are basic information I found online, and me, who was excited about going to the concert and chatting excitedly on KakaoTalk… I thought I’d feel better with time, but right now, even the album I was enjoying listening to feels a bit hard to listen to, and I honestly feel like it was a waste of money…”

On the way home with my younger sibling, I wasn’t feeling great, and both of us, who had thought we’d come back with high energy after the concert like I always do, didn’t have much to say. My friends knew how much I had been waiting for this concert for a whole month. I made sure to watch interviews with Jennie, and especially after watching the video on the “Fairy Jaehyung” channel, I realized that Jennie didn’t just get to where she is by chance. She’s not just a star with great style and talent, but as a person, she’’ incredibly admirable. I even went around telling people to watch that video.
1. She said it was a concert, but it feels like they’re just calling it a showcase to justify it and increase the number of performances. Even if it was a showcase, charging 140,000 to 220,000 won for a 67-minute performance in that area naturally raises questions. If it were a male idol, Twitter would have exploded with tens of thousands of retweets, but they just keep denying and silencing people, claiming she’s getting hate because it’s a female idol. It’s impressive how they’re trying to shut everyone up.
2. But for me, leaving everything else aside, I believe Jennie, as an artist, must have her own sense of the quality and satisfaction of her performance, given her extensive experience. However, it’s surprising that she prepared the concert in that way. When she said herself that it was her first solo concert and asked people to look forward to it, there must have been an ambition to show something worthy of her name value.
3. I don’t really care about the time length but I saw some videos on IG of her concerts and I’m shocked not more people are talking about it… Her live was so messy ㅜ
4. If the quality was like that and the venue was like that, they should have either done it for free or at least charged a minimal amount for a real showcase. A concert should leave you with a happy, fulfilling feeling when you leave, something to reminisce about for a long time, but instead, I spent money and time and all I have left is negative emotions.
5. I’m sure Jennie is feeling something too, right? As she gains more experience, a singer’s earnings come from concert revenue, so wouldn’t she pay attention to the feedback from the performance? Think of it as growing pains since it’s her first solo concert. As for the fans who spent money on it, it’s unfortunate…
6. I’m honestly shocked that nobody is talking about it
7. Meanwhile Taylor maintains her stamina by running on a treadmill for the same duration as her concert, and on concert days, she doesn’t even speak about anything unrelated to the concert (to save her voice). She’s a singer who is truly dedicated to her concerts, delivering high-quality performances and singing dozens of songs perfectly. Why are we even mentioning her here… She’s not called the queen of concerts for no reason.
8. 67 minutes is really too short… Is there even a concert this short? Usually, when you go to a concert, there’s an expected amount of time, and if it was anyone other than Jennie, people would definitely be talking about it.
9. She really prepared a concert to be as cheap as possible
10. I saw that post in HOT category a few days ago trying to silence everyone who didn’t like her concert, I was shocked. Why do you think her concert was talked in the HOT category in the first place… People are nice to her because it’s her company, but if this was done by YG, everyone would’ve complained
