[theqoo] ACTORS WHO TURNED DOWN THE CASTING OFFER FOR SQUID GAME 1 AND 2

“Actor Son Seokgu was reportedly asked to appear in season 1 and 2 of Netflix’s original drama ‘Squid Game’ (directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk) following the first season. He was offered both the first and second seasons, but turned them down. The reasons for the two rejections were subtly different. 

On December 9, a member of Son Seokgu’s entourage said, “When he was at his former agency SBD, he was asked to appear as Sang-woo, played by Park Hae-soo, by the production team of ‘Squid Game,’ but after much deliberation, he declined.” Season 1 was released in September 2021, about three years ago. 

“At the time, Son Seokgu and his agency were interested in the script of ‘Squid Game,’ but we never expected it to be so popular. I’d be lying if I said we weren’t disappointed after Season 1 exploded all over the world, but I remember them saying that the roles were all reserved for other actors.” 

The insider added, “So he must join Season 2. He was definitely interested, but by the time he got the book, the main roles had already been decided,” he explains. They explained that he had only received a partial script for security reasons, but the casting of Im Siwan and Kang Haneul had already been finalized, so there were concerns and disagreements about the amount of time and the main plot. Disney+ ‘Casino’ was also scheduled.”
