Singer and actor Cha Eunwoo, currently serving in the military, salutes in a suit.
His recent whereabouts have been captured, sparking controversy following allegations of tax evasion.
Previously, allegations of tax evasion were raised against Cha Eunwoo after reports emerged in January that he had received a notice from the National Tax Service demanding over 20 billion won in back income tax.
Subsequently, he apologized via social media, stating, “I respect the procedures and results of the National Tax Service and have paid all related taxes to prevent further confusion.”
The amount he paid is approximately 13 billion won, and it is reported that a refund was issued as it was acknowledged that a portion of the previously paid corporate tax and value-added tax had been subject to double taxation.
Cha Eunwoo also clarified allegations that he signed a management service contract with a corporation established by his mother and was subject to a corporate tax rate lower than the income tax rate.
He explained, “I established the corporation as part of the preparation process to continue my activities more stably during a period of turmoil.”
At the same time, he bowed his head and said, “There were parts that were not sufficiently reviewed during the process, and the responsibility lies with me, not with my family or the company.”
Cha Eunwoo enlisted last July and is currently serving as a corporal in the military band; he is scheduled to be discharged next January.
