Kosdaq-listed company D Company initially planned to appoint NewJeans member Hyein’s uncle as an internal board member but suddenly withdrew the decision. D Company had been rumored to be recruiting Min Heejin, former ADOR CEO, although Min publicly denied meeting with any investors, including D Company.
According to Women’s Economy Newspaper on the 13th, Mr. Lee, a close relative of Hyein, was one of five candidates who were set to be registered as internal board members of D Company. However, D Company withdrew the agenda to nominate Mr. Lee and the other four candidates for its upcoming extraordinary general meeting of shareholders.
The media outlet reported that “Among D Company’s previously disclosed board member candidates was Mr. Lee, the chairman of Company H and an alumnus of Hanyang University. In the entertainment industry, rumors circulated that Mr. Lee was the uncle of NewJeans’ member Hyein. Mr. Park, also a board member candidate, was reportedly involved in planning NewJeans’ events in Japan.”
This information was confirmed through D Company’s filings on the Financial Supervisory Service’s electronic disclosure system. According to the disclosure, D Company removed the five existing board member candidates and replaced them with seven new candidates.
The disclosure noted that Mr. Lee, listed as an alumnus of Hanyang University and chairman of Company H, aligned with Women’s Economy Newspaper’s report. Mr. Lee and Mr. Park’s names first appeared as board candidates on October 2, with Mr. Lee’s appointment set to be processed at the extraordinary shareholders’ meeting on the 8th. However, the meeting was postponed twice, now scheduled for the 20th and 26th of this month.
The timing of D Company’s complete overhaul of its board candidates coincides with Min Heejin’s denial of the investment rumors. On November 5, Min released an official statement saying, “There are rumors circulating in the investment industry that I have received investments or signed contracts, but they are baseless.” She firmly denied speculation about her joining another company or receiving new investments.
Two days after Min’s statement, D Company disclosed that it had replaced all of its board member candidates, including Mr. Lee. However, neither D Company nor Min Heejin’s representatives have clarified the connection between the company and Hyein’s uncle.
On November 13, NewJeans sent a formal notice to ADOR, demanding Min’s reinstatement and warning that they could terminate their exclusive contracts if their requests were not met.
In the notice, NewJeans also addressed rumors, stating that they had no connection to the allegations about Hyein’s family members. While D Company acknowledged registering and withdrawing Hyein’s uncle as a board candidate, NewJeans emphasized that these rumors were untrue.
