[theqoo] GOO HYESUN KICKS OFF FULL-SCALE SALES OF HER ‘PATENTED HAIR ROLL’… 13,000 WON EACH “TOO EXPENSIVE” VS “YOU’RE PAYING FOR AN IDEA”

On the 4th, Goo Hyesun shared a link to the sales website for the hair roll she developed, along with photos from her graduation ceremony at KAIST.

After developing the hair roll, Goo Hyesun also personally took on the role of model, placing her photo and name prominently on the front page of the website. In particular, she emphasized that the product has received a patent, using phrases such as “Patented Hair Roll” and “Goo Hyesun Patented Hair Roll.”

Previously, on Radio Star, she explained the motivation behind developing the patented hair roll:
“I saw students walking around with hair rollers in their hair and wondered, ‘Why are hair rollers shaped like that?’ So I created a hair roller that unfolds.”

She went on to establish the venture company Studio Goo Hyesun Co., Ltd., and through collaboration with KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology), enhanced the technical completeness of the product to finalize the current version. Goo Hyesun has described the hair roll as more than just a simple beauty tool, saying it represents individuality and resistance, familiarity and practicality, and above all, “a choice to live as oneself,” likening it to a kind of performance.

With this hair roll, she has received recognition such as the “2025 19th Korea Outstanding Patent Award” and a Special Award in the Creative Talent category from KAIST.

Netizens reacted with mixed opinions. Some expressed disappointment, saying, “It seems a bit expensive,” “I would’ve bought it immediately if it were cheaper,” and “Is the price including the name value?” Others defended the pricing, commenting, “You’re paying for the idea,” “The seller sets the price,” and “If you don’t think it’s reasonable, you just don’t have to buy it.”
