[theqoo] “JANG WONYOUNG, NO ISSUES WITH DEPARTURE PROCEDURES”… KOREA AIRPORTS CORPORATION RESPONDS TO CONTROVERSY OVER HER BEHAVIOR

The controversy surrounding IVE member Jang Won-young’s behavior while departing via Gimpo International Airport has led to a formal complaint being filed against the Korea Airports Corporation.

When TenAsia inquired with the Korea Airports Corporation about the controversy surrounding Jang Wonyoung’s behavior, the corporation stated that the details of the complaint could not be confirmed due to privacy concerns. However, it was revealed that there were no procedural issues during the identity verification process for Jang Wonyoung’s departure. In response to TenAsia’s inquiry, a spokesperson explained, “The procedure was carried out in accordance with regulations.” They added, “When I watched the video, didn’t Jang Wonyoung lower her mask twice? There’s no need to completely remove her hat. It’s sufficient if the staff member can determine that the person’s appearance matches the passport photo. The way on-site staff request verification may vary from person to person.”

According to a previous media report, the purpose of this complaint is not merely to point out the behavior of a specific celebrity, but to request a clear explanation of the standards and procedures used by the airport for identity verification.

The report stated that a complaint was submitted on the 15th to the Security Management Department of the Gimpo Airport Operations Division of the Korea Airports Corporation, requesting the establishment of clear standards for the identity verification process in the international departure lounge at Gimpo International Airport and the development of a concrete official guidance system. The complainant cited the fact that Incheon International Airport provides separate guidelines requiring passengers to remove masks, hats, and sunglasses when verifying their identities. Accordingly, it was reported that the complainant inquired whether the same principle is being enforced at airports nationwide managed by the Korea Airports Corporation, and whether general passengers can intuitively understand these procedures through official guidance.

Furthermore, the complainant emphasized, “If there are security procedures that passengers must follow on-site, the public should be able to easily understand them.” Consequently, the complainant requested that the Corporation disclose the specific name of the regulation requiring the removal of masks or hats, the responsible department, and the relevant legal provisions. The complainant also requested a thorough verification of whether the same security standards are being enforced without discrimination for all passengers, regardless of their public profile or social status, such as politicians, businesspeople, or famous celebrities. It is reported that the Corporation plans to review and address this complaint by the 23rd.

“They say it’s special treatment for celebrities, but there are ordinary people next to them wearing masks and getting tested too

Even Jang Wonyoung has pulled it all the way down to her mouth. If you pull it down this far, even ordinary people can get through.”

1. Ugh… If you can read Korean, just read the text. The criteria for verification differ from employee to employee, don’t they? Why are you going on and on about taking a photo and doing exactly the same thing?

2. It’s just… she’s been in the spotlight for almost 10 years since her debut back in middle school, and she’s been so desperate to make a comeback these past few years because she hasn’t been able to break through. The fact that she got slammed and took a beating in the boy-crazies on community sites, where people are constantly comparing her to male idols and major groups, just for one little slip-up that anyone could make if they let their guard down for a second… it’s f*cking mind-blowing

3. I wonder if everyone has different standards. When I went through ID verification at the airport in May, they told me to take my hat off completely

4. If someone other than Jang Wonyoung had left the country pretending to be her, that would be a problem, but since there were no issues with her identity verification, I don’t see what Jang Wonyoung or the staff did wrong. In a situation where there were no identity verification issues, conducting additional, unnecessary checks actually turns the means into the end

5. Is Wonyoung the victim of negative virality lately? It’s getting so severe

6. Wonyoungie, fihgting

7. I wonder when Wonyoungie will be able to go about her business in peace. People are even bashing her in really old threads like this one, aren’t they practically her age? They’re hating her in such a nasty way that it’s off-putting; they just don’t know when to stop. They’re tearing her apart like they want to k*ll her. It’s not like she was throwing a tantrum or acting like a diva at the airport, and it’s not even making the news, is this really enough to cause such a huge uproar across the entire community sites?

8. People are seriously hating so intensely on Jang Wonyoungㅋㅋㅋ Such a mess

9. It’s so funny how some people are shouting about women’s rights on one hand, while on the other hand they’re relentlessly bashing them to d**thㅋㅋ

10. Even ordinary people would pass that easily. There seem to be a ton of people who get all worked up and start grumbling without even going to the airport
