[theqoo] MELON’S 2024 YEAR-END CHART… TWS’ ‘PLOT TWIST’ TAKES 1ST PLACE

Kakao Entertainment has released the ‘2024 Melon Year-End Chart,’ analyzing popular music trends based on domestic and international chart performances through its music platform Melon.

Topping the domestic year-end chart was TWS with their debut track ‘Plot Twist’ creating a sensation. Another rookie idol group, ILLIT, also made a strong debut with ‘Magnetic,’ securing the 8th spot.

The girl group boom continued this year as well. (G)I-DLE’s ‘Fate’ climbed to 2nd place, becoming a reclimbing-the-chart phenomenon. aespa’s ‘Supernova,’ which held the top spot on the weekly chart for 15 consecutive weeks, set a record for the longest No. 1 run on Melon and secured 3rd place. aespa also made multiple chart entries with hits like ‘Drama,’ ‘Armageddon,’ and ‘Spicy,’ cementing their status as a leading girl group.

NewJeans, another representative of the 4th generation girl groups, saw their song ‘How Sweet’ land at 15th place, with a total of eight tracks making it into the top 100. IVE demonstrated their staying power with ‘I AM’ from 2023 ranking 21st and other hits like ‘HEYA’ at 26th, ‘LOVE DIVE,’ and ‘After LIKE’ also featuring prominently on the year-end chart.

Bands also had a remarkable year. DAY6 achieved double reverse-charting success with ‘Time of Our Life’ and ‘You Were Beautiful,’ placing 5th and 7th respectively. They also charted new releases like ‘Welcome to the Show’ and ‘HAPPY.’ Girl band QWER’s ‘T.B.H’ took the 10th spot, while ‘My Name is Malguem’ landed at 91st. The drama ‘Lovely Runner’ featured the band ECLIPSE, whose track ‘Sudden Shower’ consistently performed well, ranking 14th.

Solo artists also made significant impacts. IU’s ‘Love Wins All’ secured the 4th spot, maintaining her strong popularity, with ‘Holssi’ placing 74th. BIBI’s ‘Bam Yang Gang’ became a sweet reclimbing-the-chart phenomenon, finishing 16th. BLACKPINK’s Rose and global pop star Bruno Mars collaborated on ‘APT.,’ which, despite its October release, reached 46th place, making waves in the global music market.
