BLACKPINK’s Jisoo is once again on the chopping block due to the ‘acting controversy’.

On July 7, the Coupang Play drama ‘Newtopia,’ in which Jisoo appeared, was unveiled. ‘Newtopia’ is a drama about a soldier boyfriend, Jae Yeon (Park Jungmin), and his gom-shin girlfriend, Youngjoo (Jisoo), finding each other in a zombie-ravaged Seoul. Jisoo plays the role of Kang Youngjoo, a gomshin and a one-month new employee at the company.

The drama was highly anticipated before it aired, starring actors such as Park Jungmin and Lim Sungjae, but since its release, the public’s reaction has been cold. The main character, Jisoo, has been receiving a lot of criticism for her acting.

This is not the first time Jisoo’s acting skills have been criticized. In 2021, she made her acting debut in ‘Snow Drop,’ but her awkward pronunciation, vocalization, and facial expressions led to a controversy over her acting qualities. Unlike other acting stars who gradually built up their filmography, she was criticized for playing the lead role in her first film.

In particular, Jisoo’s performance in the desperate scene with the zombie outbreak left viewers wondering whether she was laughing or crying. However, the fact that the male lead is actor Park Jungmin makes Jisoo’s serious acting skills seem even more pronounced.
