[theqoo] ONE HUNDRED AND KBS’ FEUD… MC MONG, AFTER ‘TAKING A JAB AT SM’, “MUSICIANS SHOULD FOCUS ON MUSIC”

The ongoing dispute between One Hundred, led by MC Mong, and KBS continues to escalate. Recently, MC Mong, who had publicly criticized SM Entertainment, has spoken out again, seemingly in response to the ongoing controversy.

On March 7, MC Mong posted a series of songs he composed for groups like SISTAR, Girl’s Day, and Apink on his Instagram, stating, “Most of the songs I wrote during the loneliest and most difficult times of my life are, ironically, bright and hopeful songs.” He continued, “A few lines in the media may shape my image, but I am a fairly positive person, just like these songs.” He added, “The power of music is memories.”

Furthermore, MC Mong mentioned, “I will soon bring good news to my fans,” and emphasized, “I’ve come to realize that musicians should only speak through their music.”

The conflict began on March 4 when Xiumin, an artist under One Hundred’s label INB100, revealed that he had been denied the opportunity to appear on KBS 2TV’s ‘Music Bank.’ One Hundred claimed that SM Entertainment had exerted external pressure, causing Xiumin’s exclusion. “The only response we received was an unofficial explanation stating that it was ‘impossible to appear alongside an artist from a specific agency,'” One Hundred’s team said, adding that they had made several attempts to communicate but had not received any clear explanation from KBS, only a response denying the allegations through the media. They stated they were waiting for an official stance from KBS.

Following this, MC Mong also entered the fray. On March 5, he used social media to sharply criticize SM, saying, “You are trapped on an island, doing nothing but barbaric and violent things. I even have evidence. Should I reveal the recordings?” The post, however, was later deleted.

The dispute between One Hundred and KBS escalated, with Xiumin’s exclusion from ‘Music Bank’ leading to a boycott by other artists under the label. Lee Soo Geun refused to appear on KBS Joy’s ‘Mueos-Ideun Mul-Eobosal,’ while Lee Mu jin did not attend the recording of KBS’s YouTube show ‘LeeMujin Service.’

In response to the controversy, Han Kyung Cheon, head of KBS’s Entertainment Center, addressed the issue, stating, “The selection of ‘Music Bank’ performers is entirely up to the PD. This incident is a communication issue between the production team and the agency,” adding, “We haven’t even considered another MC until Lee Mu Jin returns. If we continue communicating, I believe our sincerity will be understood.”

On March 8, One Hundred responded, saying, “We trust Han Kyung Cheon’s statement and will prepare for Lee Soo Geun, Lee Mu Jin, and other artists to resume filming next week. We also ask KBS for active cooperation.”
