[theqoo] “PLAVE IS GIVING ME A REALITY SLAP”… KIM SHIN-YOUNG, CRITICIZED FOR BASHING VIRTUAL IDOLS

Comedian Kim Shin-young has become embroiled in controversy after making disparaging comments about the virtual idol group PLAVE.

On the 16th, during MBC FM4U’s “Kim Shin Young’s Noon Song of Hope”, after listening to PLAVE’s “Dash,” Kim Shin-young said, “Hasn’t PLAVE debuted less than two years ago? I still haven’t gotten used to it,” and added, “What really pissed me off recently was, Go Young-bae took a photo with a PLAVE member. I was really shocked. I thought, ‘How did Go Young-bae shoot this with PLAVE? How did he appear on a show with them?'”

Rapper Hangzoo explained, “I can’t meet them,” and “I’m not close to virtual idols. They’re from another world, so I can’t meet them. The only way to communicate is through social media.” Kim Shin-young responded, “This drives me insane. So did Go Young-bae take the picture alone by himself?” Hangzoo replied, “It’s edited. Go Young-bae went to the spot and took the picture.”

Kim Shin-young then said, “Honestly, I’m telling you straight up, PLAVE can’t appear on our show. I think I’m getting a reality slap,” and added, “(The members) aren’t visible, so where should I look at? Still, we have to accept this culture, but I still can’t accept it,” she hesitated.

PLAVE’ss fans expressed their displeasure. On the “Kim Shin Young’s Noon Song of Hope” viewer message board, there were calls for an apology and for her to step down. Comments included: “I didn’t expect such rude behavior. I’m disappointed,” “PLAVE hasn’t caused any harm, and it seems like the feeling of reality slap is something she might be experiencing about her,” and “She should apologize for her reckless remarks.”
