[theqoo] PLEASE SCRAP ‘PERFECT CROWN’… PETITION REACHES 25% OF SIGNATURES IN JUST ONE DAY

A public petition calling for the cancellation of ‘Perfect Crown’, for which the director, actors, and writer have all apologized over historical distortion controversies, has been launched, and the number of signatures is rising rapidly.

On the 22nd, a petition demanding the cancellation of the MBC Friday-Saturday drama ‘Perfect Crown’ was posted on the National Assembly’s public petition board.

The petitioner stated, “Clear historical inaccuracies and direction that strongly suggests the intent of a certain country’s ‘Northeast Project’ (cultural project) have been continuously exposed, sparking public outrage,” and pointed out ▲distortion of national dignity and titles ▲indiscriminate borrowing of foreign culture ▲errors in national symbolic attire as major points of distortion and controversy.

The petitioner requested:

“Please have the Korea Communications Standards Commission and the relevant government authorities immediately order the suspension of broadcasts for the drama, which has committed severe historical distortion and cultural appropriation.”

“To prevent distorted culture from spreading worldwide, please force the complete removal and disposal of the program from all already released domestic and international VOD and OTT services (across all platforms).”

The petition expires on June 21; if it garners 50,000 signatures within 30 days, it will be referred to the relevant standing committee. As of 1:00 p.m. on the 23rd, 12,000 people have signed the petition. Having reached 25% of the target in just one day, attention is now focused on its future progress.

In response, the production team of ‘Perfect Crown’ announced that it would remove the controversial content and decided to close the pop-up store currently operating at a department store in Yeouido ahead of schedule.

The day isn’t over yet.

It’s unclear what genuine reflection or responsible action MBC, which plays dumb and applies double standards, has actually taken.

5. The pop-up store has done everything it was supposed to do and sold everything it was supposed to sell. It was supposed to run for 10 days, including the weekend and the substitute holiday, but they’re wrapping it up in just 7 days. It hasn’t even ended yet, but they’re acting like they;re being sensitive about the situation and pretending it’s already over after just one day. This PR stunt about an early closure is really annoying.
