A scene filled with several beer bottles reminiscent of a university retreat. This is the background of a photo taken of FT Islad’s Lee Hongki during his middle school years. After his debut, Lee Hongki admitted about his school days that he ‘wasn’t a model student,’ confessing that he almost got expelled due to involvement in fights, as well as drinking and smoking.

Lee Hongki’s mother, Kong Seung-ok, said, ‘Boys tend to get into fights when they’re young. So, I was called to the school, and everyone said they wouldn’t forgive my son. But Hongki just sat there stiffly without admitting he was wrong, and I ended up kneeling down for him.’ 

She continued, ‘After leaving school, Hongki walked ahead, and I was walking behind him, but he didn’t even look back. Later, when we were on the bus, he said he was sorry but couldn’t bring himself to turn around.’ Wiping her tears.

‘At that moment, seeing my mother kneeling, I couldn’t even say I was sorry,’ Hongki recalled. He reflected, ‘I did a lot of reckless things in middle and high school and rebelled a lot, but my mother was always my support. I think I treated her the harshest when she stood by me until the end. I felt so sorry back then, and I will work hard to make up for my past mistakes. Thank you,’ he said, shedding tears and touching the hearts of those watching.
