[theqoo] THE REASON YOU CAN’T JUST USE “CUTE” CARELESSLY IN THE US

– I realized that in the U.S., you shouldn’t use “cute” carelessly. All the Caucasian guys became really shy, and they kept mentioning and cherishing these moment (when they hear they’re cute), so I was wondering what was going on. They said it’s a word full of romantic interest. I kind of understood, but I thought people would just let it slide because I was using the foreigner card, so I kept saying it like how we do in Korea, like “Ah, you’re cute~” as a casual remark. But it seems like I shouldn’t be doing that

– In Korea, we call people “cute” even if they’re not necessarily good-looking, right? But here, it seems like it’s really, really in the “there’s a chance there’s something going on” realm. When it comes to behavior, I just say “cute” if it’s something silly in Korea, but here, it has such a positive meaning. 

– My jaw dropped. So “cute” is the equivalent of a confession

– In English-speaking countries, calling a guy “cute” means he’s good-looking and s*xy. Because of the habit of saying “cute” to men out of courtesy in Korea, be careful not to use “cute” on unattractive guys when you go abroad.

– It’s true that “cute” just means “cute” but it also makes them think “does she think I’m cute?”

– This is so scary, I won’t be able to be in the US. feel like if I snap back to reality, I’ll end up as a crazy, possibility-obsessed person who doesn’t discriminate between men and women of all ages, a legendary Casanova who’s fooled hundreds, or a crazy Asian player.

“S/he’s cute” = you’re actually into that person 

3. So I’ve been confessing to the hamster in my house all this time… That’s why he’s acting repulsed by me all the time

5. I realized the impact when I watched an American drama, and someone said “So cute”

6. But it’s true that in Korea, you don’t really call your idea type “cute” so I can’t reate to this at all

8. So can I call them “nice” and “sweet”?????

9. So we can’t even compliment someone’s outfit being “cute”?
