As the tax filing season officially begins across the United States, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has started laying off approximately 6,000 employees, with many of the affected workers being lower-ranking staff. The Trump administration is pushing for large-scale cuts in federal employees through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
On the 20th (local time), Axios reported that as part of the Trump administration’s effort to reduce the federal workforce, the IRS began notifying employees of their layoffs. Most employees were informed via email that they would have 30 minutes to leave their jobs. Kevin Hassett, Chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers (NEC), told reporters that “there are more than 100,000 people working in tax collection, but not everyone is working at full capacity.” He added, “As we improve the IT systems, there is a high possibility that more layoffs will occur.”
1. Huh? Why are they all cutting people? Are they going to be replacing them with others?
2. Are they following Korean’s work culture? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Having one person work for 3~4x the amount of work at a lower salary??
3. If you’re always cutting down people, who are going to work in the end?
4. Why are they doing things like that?
5. But what’s the point of cutting down this many people?? To save taxes??
6. IRS…?
7. Crazy, isn’t it tax seasons now?
8. So they’re not gonna count the taxes???
9. He’s really soulmates with Elon Musk
10. First of all, they’ve cut all the employees on probation + they cut a portion of the permanent workers… All departments are affected right now…
