Here are the stars who have been working “alone” without a manager
JooE of Momoland has recently revealed her life without an agency. In the latest episode of ‘Playing Sister’, which aired on December 12th, JooE surprised the cast by saying, “I drove my car to the filming site.” JooE previously established a one-man agency after ending her Momoland activities and is currently working both as an artist and manager. When asked, “Is there any good thing about working alone?” JooE honestly replied, “It’s hard, but I’m glad that I don’t have to share my income 1:N anymore.”
On this day, JooE also mentioned her financial issues. About her income from Momoland, JooE confessed, “I got my salary after about two years,” and “My parents changed their car because they thought I would continue to earn well.” She then talked about buying her parents a foreign car, sharing honestly, “I have to sell it after COVID-19 broke out.”
When JooE appeared on Mnet’s show “Queendom Puzzle” in June this year, she said, “I am now both an artist and manager. I came to the filming site myself. I have to do twice as well as I did when I debuted.”
Besides JooE, top actress Lim Soo-jung has also reportedly been working alone without an agency or manager for one year. She appeared on tvN’s “You Quiz on the Block” as a guest last month and revealed her story. When MC Yoo Jae-seok asked, “I heard you will answer drama writers’ phone in person because you don’t have a manager,” Lim answered, “It’s been about a year since I started working alone. I didn’t mean to work alone in the first place. I wanted to have some personal time, so I did all the big things by myself.”
“I took a taxi here today. Or sometimes I can drive my own car,” Lim said. “I usually handle my schedule by using public transportation or driving my own car.”
In addition, actor Choi Min-sik also talked about how he started one-man career. In an interview after the last broadcast of the Disney Plus original series “Casino” in March, Choi said that he is currently working without an agency and a manager, adding, “Unlike movies, filming dramas needs a lot of traveling, so it’s a bit tiring.” Choi Min-sik is currently moving on his own after ending his contract with CJes Entertainment, which he worked with for eight years from 2013 to 2021.
“I think it’s good as I have a lot of time to think while driving alone for long distances. I rest when I want to rest, and search for good restaurants when I’m hungry,” Choi shared.
