[theqoo] IZM MENTIONING LE SSERAFIM’S NEW SONG’S REFERENCE…

Creation without imitation cannot exist, however in reality, appropriate reference and creative transformation are considered excellent competencies. In that sense, Le Sserafim’s actions have been very impressive so far. This is because they have established themselves as one of the leaders of the 4th generation KPOP by selecting successful pop precedents and successfully incorporating them into the group’s identity.

However, the use of references in <EASY> is more blatant than necessary. ‘Smart’, which takes the form of typical Afrobeats, resembles Doja Cat’s ‘Woman’ not only in color but also in the main melody line. The sound composition of the rough rock intro ‘Good bones’ and the mid/late chorus immediately remind me of Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ ‘Date with the night’. Unlike ‘Antifragile’, which impressively reinterpreted Rosalia and Isabella Lovestory’s radical reggaeton, and ‘Eve, Psyche and the Bluebeard Wife’, which copied the Jersey Club series with its linear progression failed to convey freshness and inevitably got labelled as easy modifications without creative attempts and caused a sense of déjà vu.

[…] ‘Smart’ is similar to ‘Woman’ and can be said to be a concise and clean Afrobeats track, and ‘Swan Song’, which is reminiscent of SZA’s ‘Kill bill’, is also not unpleasant because the melodies are harmonious.

Le Sserafim Smart – Doja Cat Woman

Swan Song – SZA Kill Bill

1. They’re f*cking successful even though they’re shameless so they don’t careㅋㅋㅋ

2. Why are they always getting themselves into those …

3. I knew I’ve heard Swan Song somewhere, so it was Kill Bill…

4. KPOP only cares if they’re plagiarizing other KPOP acts, but once it’s from a foreigner, it becomes a “reference”…

5. It’s so similar to SZA’s Kill Bill to the point it’s almost funny. Good Bones also reminds me of Olivia Rodrigo’s Bad Idea Right. Their producing team is always taking the hottest singers out there as reference but the way they do it is way too obvious

6. This is too much

7. Kill Bill???????????? Huh

8. Wowㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ They really stole Kill Bill entirely with Swang Song

9. I might kill my ex~

10. They’re getting those talks again…? Is the identity of their team about copying others?
