BLACKPINK’s Jennie took the stage solo at a major U.S. music festival but received harsh criticism from local media.

On the 1st (local time), the U.S. daily newspaper *Chicago Sun-Times* delivered a scathing review of Jennie’s performance at Lollapalooza Chicago.

The Chicago Sun-Times assessed that, unlike during her group activities, Jennie was not quite up to the task of carrying a large stage on her own. The publication acknowledged that she made her presence felt toward the end of her set with intense choreography and staging during performances of hit songs such as “Mantra,” “Extra L,” and “Like JENNIE.”

However, the early part of the performance drew sharp criticism. The Chicago Sun-Times pointed out that the large-scale stage set pieces and numerous dancers actually overshadowed Jennie, and that her vocals sounded flat due to sound imbalances. Regarding the “Dracula” performance, a collaboration with Kevin Parker, the paper harshly criticized it, saying that Jennie’s live vocals and the pre-recorded track failed to harmonize, making it feel like a flashily decorated karaoke room.

3. I do like Blackpink, but I’ve never really felt that Jennie, Lisa, or the others had that kind of presence when they perform solo on big stages. Even if they aren’t intense performers like Doja Cat, just look at female solo artists like Sabrina Carpenter, they have something special about them… I guess that’s just the limitation of K-pop idols?
